What Are the Monthly Costs of a Website?

By Daniel · September 21, 2026

A business website has five running costs after it is built: hosting, the domain name, backups, security updates, and somebody to make changes when a price or a service changes.

The one owners skip is security updates. WordPress, the theme and the plugins all ship fixes constantly. Ignore them for a year and the site usually gets quietly hacked into something that sells pills to Google rather than anything you would notice. That is the single most common way a small business site dies.

The one that decides whether you stay happy is changes. If changing a price is billed by the hour with a minimum, you will stop asking, and the site will drift out of date inside a year. Ask any designer three things: what is the monthly number, what is inside it, and what does it cost me to change a price.
